Banking and Insurance
As an EU member state with access to the world’s major financial markets and built on a regulatory infrastructure which is second to none, Malta is an ideal location for the establishment of banking and insurance business activities.
Largely based on English law, Malta’s banking and insurance regulations provide a clear framework for the grant of operating licences by the Malta Financial Services Authority – MFSA, the island’s single authority for regulated activities, to:
- Credit Institutions for banking activities;
- Electronic Money institutions;
- Captive insurance and re-insurance businesses;
- Protected Cell insurance operators;
- Insurance intermediaries.
With many years of experience behind us advising clients in the sector, at ARQ we have the necessary competence and resources to assist in the license application and regulatory processes involved in the setting up and operation of banks and insurance companies in Malta. Besides providing our advisory services by drawing upon the in-house legal, accounting and financial expertise of our professionals, we also take up directorship, secretarial and compliance posts with licensed entities on a case by case basis, subject to agreed terms of engagement which are commensurate to the responsibilities assumed by us.
