Film Industry

The film industry in Malta can trace its roots to the early 1950s with the war themed movie, The Malta Story. Subsequent productions include Shout at the Devil, Popeye, Raise the Titanic and more recently, Hollywood blockbusters such as Gladiator and Casino Royale.  The Maltese islands also provided locations for Season One of Game of Thrones.

Apart from key infrastructure investment made by the Government to support and further develop the film industry, Malta’s light, location, size and wealth of architectural and topographical landscapes allow directors to take advantage of  the versatility that the archipelago offers.

The film industry in Malta also benefits from access to experienced film crews, support staff, costume designers, extras and technical crews which are further complemented by the dedicated financial and fiscal incentives available.
